Goldfields Mall, Welkom
RPP Developments, in partnership with Retail Africa and Shoprite have now opened the doors of a new 34 000m2 regional shopping mall worth R500 million in the Free State mining town of Welkom. The official opening took place on 28th October 2010.
Goldfields Mall is situated in a highly visible location on the corner of Stateway Boulevard & Buiten Street which provides easy and convenient access via the city’s well designed road infrastructure.
Anchored by major retailers Checkers, Woolworths and Edgars, Goldfields Mall offers a convenient, easily accessible shopping experience in an attractive, modern setting. The tenant mix offers great variety, and includes Truworths, Foschini, Mr. Price Sport, Reggies, as well as many locally owned businesses, franchisees and several eateries located in a central piazza. The centre’s modern architecture, reminiscent of the sheet metal structures typically used in early mining towns, is a reminder of Welkom’s rich history. The design is contemporary with double volume entrances that create a light and airy feel, split levels to create interest and landscaping to enhance the built environment.
Goldfields Mall will play a significant role in boosting economic growth in the area. Welkom residents will no longer have to make their customary shopping trips to Bloemfontein, and the mall is expected to attract shoppers as far afield as Odendaalsrus, Virginia and Hennenman.
